Free Spirits Program FAQs

Q: Do I need to nominate someone or apply for myself every month?

A: No, apply or nominate one person one time per year, and if they are not recognized, they will roll over to be considered in subsequent months.

Q: What happens if I win (or if my nominee wins)?

A: YAY! We will notify each honoree about a week before we publicize the award. We will call or email to congratulate honorees. We will ask honorees to collaborate with our resident cocktail genius KaCee Solis to develop a signature drink, which be featured on our Tasting Room menu for the month following the selection. We will ask each honoree to name a philanthropic organization to receive the proceeds from the exclusive drink. We will also provide digital assets for honorees to use on social media, etc. so honorees can share the news!

Q: Is that all?

A: NO! All monthly honorees will be invited to attend the our inaugural 2019 Free Spirits Celebration in January 2020 (in Portland). At this event, we will celebrate the community of honorees, and present our annual donation to one philanthropic organization that provides inspiration and resources to Free Spirits in Oregon. The monthly Free Spirit Award honorees, judges, and employees and advisors of Freeland Spirits will collectively determine which of the selected philanthropic organizations will receive the cash donation.

Q: Why do nominees need to live in Oregon?

A: For our first year, we want to identify and feature terrific Free Spirits who live in and are making a difference in our home state, Oregon, where our state motto is "She Flies With Her Own Wings." We plan to expand the Free Spirits program to other Western states in 2020.
