Our Gin Recipe
Hot Damn! Today Master Molly finished our gin recipe and I must say, it speaks to my soul. Thirteen botanicals are distilled through the copper pot still: juniper, grapefruit, lemon, lemongrass, Yerba mate, cardamom pods, caraway seeds, pink peppercorn, bay leaf, star anise, galangal root, Angelica root, and orris.
Fresh ingredients, cucumber, mint, rosemary, thyme, and honey, are then distilled with a roto-vap. As far as we know there’s only one other distillery in the country using a roto-vap. This unique distillation process uses vacuum distillation and is wonderful with delicate and fresh ingredients. We’ll be growing all the fresh ingredients right at the distillery. And we’ll add bees to our roof someday soon!
My friends from Long Distance Cocktail Club paid a visit this weekend. We mixed up all kinds of cocktails. Hibiscus liquer from Salish Sea Liquors – a wonderful addition to Freeland Gin. Corpse revivers, martinis, negronis and, of course, gin and tonics – all delicious – and we’ll be featuring recipes here soon. But ultimately, I love it with just one cube of ice.
